AquaLife
A downloadable game for Windows
In AquaLife, you encounter a once beautiful and flourishing coral reef. It is your task to restore balance by affecting factors like oxygen, acidity, and salinity. Be careful, though, because the ecosystem is interconnected and no action comes without the potential to throw something else out of whack!
Play your way through 3 increasingly difficult levels and see the reef come to life!
Note: This game was made during the 2024 Pixel Game Jam using the homebuilt game engine "Protegon." Check it out at: https://github.com/martinstarkov/protegon
How to Play:
AquaLife is a point-and-click game.
When you enter the level you will see the coral reef in its current state as the inhabitants navigate around for the first day. In the top right, you see the current environmental levels. Hold the 's'-key to speed up the day.
Upon nightfall you will have the opportunity to make 3 changes (one at a time) to the reef. If you do not wish to change anything on a given night, you may use the skip button to use up 1 of your choices. The other choices can either add or remove structures that will have certain effects on the reef (see below for a key).
After your choices have been made, the next day will begin. The environmental levels will adjust based on the new conditions of the reef. Try to get every level close to ideal in as few days as possible!
Structure Key:
pink anenome: spawns clownfish which take up oxygen :)
yellow anenome: spawns shrimp which absorb salt from the water
cave: spawns suckerfish to clean up waste
seed dispenser: plants kelp in its vicinity
calcium statues: reduce the acidity of the reef, but increase salt levels
driftwood: increase acidity of the reef
Be careful! Some structures pollute the environment, and the more fish you have the more oxygen they require.
